Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA): Varicose Veins Laser Treatment

Unsightly bulging and twisting varicose veins can now be treated with much less invasive procedures than the traditional vein stripping of the past. One of the most popular and effective procedures used to eliminate varicose veins is endovenous laser ablation (Ablation means closure or destruction).

Licensed-EVLT-image_webRather than removing the vein, like vein stripping, this treatment utilizes a laser fiber to heat the vein internally so the vein immediately seals shut and eventually fades away completely. The procedure is minimally invasive, nearly painless and performed in the office, offering patients a whole new option in vein treatment that requires only local anesthesia with no downtime or scars.

Endovenous laser ablation is performed by Dr. Cohen in a room designed for this purpose. First, the skin is numbed using a topical anesthetic. Then, a thin tube is inserted though a needle puncture into the affected vein, serving as a channel for the laser fiber. The laser is inserted through the tube to slowly heat the vein until it collapses shut. The laser is removed and you can return to regular activities immediately after the procedure. Typically, the whole treatment takes less than 20 minutes.
